I bet there's plenty of conversations just like these happen throughout them establishment.

Wonder are there any guys in the establishment that care about their country?

There are plenty that care about their country I am sure. Its just their country is the Yookay-2012 Olympic Ceremony-Private Eye-Newsagents-TheRestisPolitics version of it that doesn't exist beyond the imagination of our Nomenklatura. They're going to go down fighting aren't they the bastards? Struck me the other day that the most important thing in the world to me wasn't freedom - it was truth. Truth is always transcendent, freedom is conditional. That's why since the sixties the cultural message is about freedom in every pop song and coming of age drama, every soap opera... Freedom is nothing without truth, but in a time of men without chests we don't feel it as we should. We just feel the constant unease of being lied to, and knowing that they know we know we are being lied to. God help us.

About those Olympic ceremonies….it really bothers me that so many olympic ceremonies are tributes to pop culture and diversity while the Russians devoted theirs to highlighting the literature, classical music and scientific achievements of Russia. I’ll never forget how Bob Kostas, the perennial American Olympic commentator just kept talking about how one of their rings failed to open during the Sochi ceremonies and how terrible it was that they didn’t celebrate LGBT rights.

I’m sure the spies have degraded along with everyone else in public service these days. The only constant is the complete lack of morality. Terrifying to think what they have in store. Stalin showed that just because your enemies list includes half the population is no reason not to try and track them down….

If any of real life matches the attitude youve managed to capture here, then I understand why "demonic possession" is such a ubiquitous concept in human history - and so eagerly purged.

I often wonder how humiliating it must feel for British Naval officers to watch, day after day, year after year, the fleet of small boats arrive unimpeded on the coast of England. Do they still sing 'Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves' or does the shameful reality make it too unbearable to even say the words?

...and now I wish to see this story further being fleshed out and made into a high-cost production thriller series on TV - like the types we had 30 years ago. Just with you as the lead writer and executive producer.

I know, I know. But a man can dream, right?

All my best, mate. And thanks for all the work done.

Oh England! Model to thy inward greatness.

Like little body, with a mighty heart.

What mightst thou do, that honour would thee do?

Were all thy children, kind and natural!

I enjoyed your updated version of Le Carré's circus. His enigmatic style of espionage was the diametric opposite of Fleming's swaggering pretensions and must be closer to the truth. 50 years later, the reality that all these ethnically and culturally similar characters could conspire against each other for seedy and sometimes sinister ends, seems bizarre. The absence of diversity makes their scheming look all the more petty. They lived in such simple times!

I would be fascinated to see your take on Apple TV's Slow Horses. It is the Guardianista view of how Mi5 now works. In the first series, the villains were of course, low IQ, white, right wing thugs, influenced by a Farage posh boy type. The following three series become progressively more diverse, unhinged and predictably, the reviews have been gushing with adoration. If Slow Horses was strictly for laughs, it would be a good comedy.

Here is my favourite clip from "Tinker Tailor..." Full of understated malice and contempt. Following that, my favourite clip from "Slow Horses" Season 1. The always marvellous Gary Oldman plays the boss, motivating his team. How England has changed!

I wonder how bad things will have to get before guys like this realise that they are on the wrong side and decide to act. I wonder if that has already happened somewhere.

Trevelyan's actions in Goldeneye make alot more sense in retrospect.

The collective West is made up of helpful and kind (by nature) people being stung to death and drown by imported ones from violent and bankrupt failed states.

Scorpions and Frogs

It's just their nature, so let's stop pretending.
