Reading through the month’s essays and giving some thoughts on the emerging age of sectarian politics across Britain. Overall, August was a month dominated by Britain, from my trip around the North East, which studiously avoided any ‘‘hot spots’’ to the ‘‘Two Teir’’ policing and riots. As I note in my podcast, there’s a visceral, harrowing, and genuine feeling to life in the You-Kay that starkly contrasts the glitz and fakery of the American election. Grotty streets featuring vape shops and dodgy phone repair swindles lining potholed roads, being fought over and torched by sectarian mobs in contrast to the hyper-real neon and Great Show over in the states.
It appeals to my sensibilities as New Order’s early stuff did over the Spice Girls.
