Superb, thoughtful discussion. Greg Johnson is right, the first thing anyone should have been doing was offering condolences. I have criticisms of aspects of the Queen’s reign - Apostolic Majesty’s Queen of the Ashes video discusses this so well. However, the Queen represented the Union for us Loyalists in Belfast. Many in my family distrusted the government in Westminster (with good cause) but saw the Queen as separate and above that. My family tell me that new King Charles visited Belfast a few days after his mother’s death, and was mobbed by a supportive crowd. I cannot think of one living politician who would inspire such a reaction.

I really liked the chat, needed to happen.

Excellent discussion. The fact that the various pro Republican Commonwealth PMs (eg Trudeau, Jacinda) all were politically savvy enough to be - at least - outwardly gracious and solemn at the funeral of QEII shows just shows how childish and horrid a lot of the (mainly leftist - but not all) twitterati and other commentators really are. All of that vehemence also seemed to be driven by something deeper than just a general attachment to anti monarchy beliefs - it seemed, to me, to be anti British.

Perhaps with an added dollop of nihilism added in.

I think I said something similar on one of your other articles, as someone who is not a monarchist, the best thing to do is keep your head down and watch the system process it and note how non natives behave.

Didn't the queen tell people they should get the jab, or did I just dream that?

Regarding lack of pallbearer diversity I suggest checking video the coffin leaving Holyrood. One of the lads is clearly out of step, you can guess which one. Can't make this shit up. Meme-worthy material.
