Perhaps a good time to do a sneaky little shill of the video I did on Captain Ahab as a Faustian archetype.

There exists an inverse correlation between the decline of the West and the quality of Morgoth’s literary output.

The expressions on the young men’s faces in the photo posted in the article remind me of the expressions on the faces of my grandmother's two brothers in the family photo album. Both were wearing uniforms, both were killed in the First World War, one in the trenches, one in one of the ships sunk off Galipolli.

I think the defeat of the GAE in Ukraine will be good for us in the longer term but, alas, bad for us in the short term. The humiliated beast will be thirsting for vengeance and they're likely to take it out on some helpless and vulnerable targets who cannot fight back, i.e., Western white people. That means more censorship, more anarcho-tyranny, more police state, more repressive laws and, generally, more malice and wanton neglect (which is a form of malice anyway).

However, in the longer term, the Russians may have done us a big favour here. Our rulers confidence is predicated on their, hitherto, unshakeable belief in their right to rule, to do as they please and generally swagger around as the greatest power on earth. Their loss in Ukraine may mean that not only do they lose the mandate of heaven but that they are seen to lose it, not just by the Russians and the Chinese but by their serfs too. To lift a phrase from the movie 'Predator', if it bleeds it can be killed. Well, it turns out that it does bleed, quite profusely actually.

What a sober but accurate summary of the state of the West. Blackrock have already made their intentions clear that they will hoover up the profits from the rich Ukrainian soil and mineral deposits. It is clear that these faceless asset management monsters, the military, Silicon Valley, and big pharma now control our political class. Are these scum so ruthless that they will continue to watch hundreds of thousands of European men get slaughtered on the off chance Ukrainian might prevail and they will increase their balance sheets? Any idea that we are "the good guys" and bullshit about "our democracy" now sickens me. The decline is accelerating. The lies are getting bigger.

We're in real trouble folks.

Brilliant analysis. Hope people will share this.

The Ukraine Russia war ( started after the NeoCon/ Victoria Nuland backed coup ) has highlighted how important it is to maintain a manufacturing and industrial base. The ability of Russia to mass manufacture artillery shells compared to the West has also been a key factor in the success.

I have too much to say to say it all.

In lieu of an essay in agreement: right on man. Right on.

This one got me to subscribe. Excellent analysis, and brilliantly articulated.

I wrote "Peak Morgoth" to a piece when you published it a few weeks ago. It was true at the time, it no longer is now. And thank you very, very much for not forgetting the terrible human suffering that has been the result of an offensive that, as it appears quite clearly now, was planned for its mass media "success", not any success in the military sense. Has there ever been something like this in the military history of mankind, where young lives are thrown away just to slightly move the needle on public opinion? I wonder whether the people of Ukraine will eventually start to question how these decisions were made and to what purpose.

Take a drive through Aldershot Garrison to get an idea of the dire state of our military. The home of the British Army. Falling apart from years of neglect and lack of pride in history and tradition. Wellington is turning in his grave. Great article Morgoth.

Do some “ guerrilla marketing “. Have this essay “accidentally leak out” ,to let the normies see what they are missing.

". . . the demographic oblivion, dead sperm counts, and collapsing infrastructure, our destiny is set we will chase the last traditional culture around the Horn, and around the Norway maelstrom, and around perdition's flames before we give the gay up."

Poetry. I must say that the obsession the regime has with the gay is truly shocking at times. I don't necessarily bury my head in the sand when it comes to the gay shit, but I rarely encounter that in my real life, so it still seems like a distant threat where I live--but I know it is only a matter of time.

Cheers, Morgoth!

Great panoptic view of our disaster. Simply terrific last paragraph. New edition of Melville's Moby Dick now begins: "Call me Morgoth..." - And ends "And I only am escaped alone to tell thee" 😎

I had some fun with a model UN 2 week project in a class years ago, probably 2014. I asked the professor for Russia and proceeded to kinda derail the plans of the Western powers and back Iran vociferously. I wrote an official speech playing nice, and a "policy paper" saying we should take steps to decouple from West and rebuild our military industrial complex in order to stand up to the West.

Anyway, the guy using Iran was grateful and we worked together to stymie Israel and the Western powers and wore them down. Eventually China agreed to our plan and they backed down!

I bet I was hated for this but worth it. The professor wrote "well done!" so at least someone enjoyed the show.

In the early stages of the Taliban’s defeat in Afghanistan there was some discussion of this being the opening phase of a civilisational “long war” against Islamist forces. It reached its apex with the adoption of the term “War on Terror”. The public facing “Big Army” military involvements in Iraq and Afghanistan have ended, with bipartisan wilful amnesia on that history now in full effect for the West. But for the rest of the world (esp the Middle East) the everyday reality is there are still second and third order WoT inspired conflicts underway - hot, smouldering, and at best “cold”.

I note for the Ukrainian conflict there has been some ahem pragmatic/realist Western IR commentary about trying to create a frozen conflict (similar to the Korean Peninsula) as a means to contain Russia, while ensuring a bleeding Ukraine can be further supported/enmeshed with NATO.

So in 2023, the West’s having learnt nothing from its WoT adventures across the Middle East is now considering duplicating the Korean DMZ experience within SRBM range of European cities. Scarily - considering how dangerous this entire situation is - a frozen conflict (even if it could even be arranged) is still better and much more publicly acceptable than a return to inflammatory “long war” marketing from Washington DC - eg a “global struggle against Putinism”, etc.

Just finished work and opened Substack, and what do I find to start my weekend? Savage stuff!, and an absolute corker! The Sage of the North is back and on blazing form. You really do need a spoken word version, Morgoth. It'd pack even more of a fearsome punch, in my humble opinion.
