Really I came here to comment that the term 'normative' is misused here as it so often is. It is not a posh synonym for 'normal'. 'Normal' means unexceptional states of things, which is what was intended here. 'Normative' means statements and perspectives which are not descriptive but evaluative, particularly with respect to norms. 'Normal' juxtaposes 'exceptional'. 'Normative' juxtaposes 'descriptive'.
